We asked the owner of this fan site a series questions on how their fan site came to be.
What prompted you to start a fan site?
What’s the old saying? “if you want something done right, do it yourself?” Well that’s not fair to some of the other great sites out there, but Aniston Center is a place for Jennifer’s fans – created by fans and run by fans.
How long have you had your site?
Aniston Center started in April of 2003, it has been through a number of changes and owners since then.
How do you manage to keep content fresh?
That’s the hardest part of running a fan site! Especially in our case. We don’t use the tabloid stuff except to make fun of them. So it’s a constant effort looking for the factual information and presenting it in a concise and interesting manner.
What sort of CMS do you use?
The Forum is just PHPBB with a template from Mike Lothar. The Gallery is Coppermine and the main web site is hand coded.
What’s the most fulfilling aspect of running a fan site?
That’s easy, the forum and the community of Jennifer’s fans. We have a terrific staff of moderators and administrators and the fans are just as wonderful as Jen.
What prompted you to move to SmooveNET?
All of the other Fan based sites require advertising while SmooveNET doesn’t. SmooveNET also allows a great deal of freedom at the server level, which is important when trying to manage the spammers and other misfits.
What do you find most valuable about SmooveNET’s service?
That’s it right there, the service. SmooveNET is always there to help and when things do go wrong the staff is prompt and always courteous and very knowledgeable.
